I Can’t Tell In His Eyes [MP3] Doubt/Hope [MP3] There is No Light [VIDEO] Building their sound on vocal expressions and drums, Mariam Wallentin and Andreas Werliin of Wildbirds & Peacedrums expand it to a level of free and raw blues. The tender intimacy, soaring ballads and certain jazz elements of their debut album Heartcore (2008) take the listener to new heights only to be grounded by the duo’s fiery passion, beautifully brutal and experimental crashes, powerful drumming and layers of sounds. The flowing dynamic ease, waves of strong emotions and intensity of Heartcore create beautiful and distinct soundscapes. Links: Official website MySpace profile
Human mannerism is the subject of most (if not all) music and art. Panic Ensemble provide a new take on this theme. When they approached their music and lyrics, they actually wrote a psychology book. Panic Ensemble’s debut album is a brilliant survey of the human psyche with special focus on the wonderful behaviors of fear, obsession and panic. With lyrics based partly on professional literature, their work has a solid base in reality. On the other hand, with their amazing musical arrangements, they posses a celestial aura. To bring this down to earth and give a bit of a clue about what kind of music they do, I will just have to throw in Rock, Jazz, Klezmer, Electronica and most of all Cabaret as categorizing genres. Panic Ensemble’s debut was recently released on Earsay Records. Links: MySpace Profile
What I Would Say in Your Funeral [MP3] Salt [MP3] In his pursue of originality, a one-man band from Iceland, Mugison combines the elements of black humor, avant-garde content and indie simplicity. Mugison’s musical world strikes me as utterly weird, disturbing and heart-wrenching at the same time. His heartfelt exploration of psychedelic-tinged compositions, rich assortment of sounds, ambient noises, acoustic guitar arrangements and orchestral instrumentation come together to produce something beautifully eerie and original. Once he put some music on, something he recorded, a while ago. It was a bit dark, and I was a bit gloomy. It was winter. I started to talk, to tell a story, to create a world. That story had a soundtrack, and it was his music. One moment there was a story, one moment there was music, and then a single second later, I was standing in a complete world, of music and words. We created it together. And it was winter. I couldn’t let go, I didn’t want to see that world fading away, I had to chase him, to stick to him, and to re-create this world over and over again. To make music together. But you have to understand, I am not a musician. He is. I just tell stories.
Zozobra [MP3] Ihabibi [MP3] I am telling you, gypsies are going to take over everything. We ought to fight them, catch them while we can, there’s no other hope. The whole of civilization is at stake. Why am I asking you to take care of them? Why don’t I do it myself? Well, that’s quite simpel, I have been listening to their music. Do you really believe I could do anything to such music? Not possible. Go, listen to it, you will see. You will listen, and then you will come back to me weeping, for such beauty and joy only tears follow.

Les Reines Prochaines is from Switzerland. It’s an all women multilingual feminist band. A small fact about feminism over at the Swiss Alpes: Women were granted the right to vote only in 1971. Another small fact: women were allowed to participate in the local elections of the canton Appenzell Inner Rhoden, only in 1991. That’s not that long ago. A small detail about Les Reines Prochaines: they are crazy. And a last detail: they do wonderful covers. Between two solar systems, somewhere in the blank space, you can find Under Byen. Between Sigur Ros and Björk. Every mass, even the smallest one, generates a gravitational force which its strength is relative to its size. Solar systems are huge masses and therefore create powerful gravitational fields. The apple in your kitchen is small, but still attracts. Under Byen are balanced - from one direction they are pulled by Björk and from the other side by Sigur Rós. Two giant forces, and one small point balanced between them, mixing both powers into its own special sense of stability. Uma [MP3] Aria [MP3] Le(S) Hasards (Berceuses #1) [MP3] Not only computers and electronic toys can generate clicks. Actually, the clicks were there a long time before any electricity made its way in some rubber coated copper wires, they were all around us since the beginning of time, but they were all connected, so they just didn’t sound or look like small fragmented clicks. But if we take our natural sounds and fragment them to small tiny pieces, it’s click that we will have. And that’s exactly what Monogram is all about - creating natural clicks. They broke everything - the guitars, the drums, the piano. All is broken, but what we have is even more complete and encompassing then when it was all tied together.
Tick [MP3] Hokama Bass [MP3] Cave’s Gynnek [MP3] It was only a matter of time, but it took quite a while, before Jazz and the click culture joined forces. Looking at the history of Jazz, which was fast to adopt new instruments, one can only wonder what took them so long. However, feat not, the moment has come, and it’s one of beauty beyond imagination. Harpy Listens - Train Music [MP3] Harpy Listens - Zara Music [MP3] First I should warn that I am biased. That’s is usually the situation in which you are when talk about friends. Tangled in my headphones from time to time, merging the outside with inside, merging music with the world, I understand what She is talking about, what She is mixing into a single waveform. The two tracks were made one through a Zara shop and one through London’s Tube:
I never really thought about this listening experience before although I put on my headphones almost all the time, everywhere I go, and anyone whom I am with. Conciously, I will be listening to the tunes on my Ipod but subconciously, or inevitably I will also be listening to the background/ environmental noise. It is almost as though laying several tracks down and mixing them in real time as the environment changes over time. Every occurence of sound stands a potential to affect the listening experience that may leave a dramatic effect such as sound of car crash.
Texting Your Way To Love [short movie]
Times have changed. The eloquently written love notes of yesteryear probably won't get you very far these days when it comes to serenading that special someone.
